Match Preview

Cross Keys v Pontypridd Principality Premiership

There is probably no better way to start a new season than with a match between arguably the two best club sides in Wales last season.

Anyone who might not agree with that only has to look at the two clubs' trophy cabinets with Keys of course holding the Swalec Cup and Ponty deservedly being the champions of the Principlality Premiership.

There won't be any Keys supporter who is likely to forget the previous time these two sides met in a hurry. That fantastic May Day bank holiday Monday at the greatest rugby stadium in the world, The Millennium Stadium may still seem like a dream to some Keys fans but it wasn't, it really did happen Keys of course emerging victorious 32-19 and travelling back to a rapturous reception at Pandy Park.

But that was then and this is now and it is the 2012/13 season that approaches. Ponty come into Saturday's encounter with 3 wins from their 3 pre-season fixtures, a 34-7 win at home over Ystrad Rhondda, a 64-13 victory against Llantrisant again at Sardis Road and a narrow 20-19 win at Church Bank over Premiership rivals Llandovery.

As for Keys, pre-season also saw them emerge with 100 percent win record although just two games were played. On tour in Germany Keys were victorious over hosts Berliner by 38 points to 20 and at Butts Park Arena in Coventry Keys came away with a 30-13 victory over the home side. On Tuesday evening Keys held a structured training session cum trial match with Bargoed RFC which was a great success.

Saturday's game is sure to be a huge game to kick off the season. Get behind The Keys and cheer them on to victory.
