Bargoed v Cross Keys Preview & Team News

Cross Keys head to Bargoed Park this Saturday to take on the Bulls for the latest Principality Premiership fixture.

The 2 sides met on the second day of the season at Pandy Park and it was the visitors who deservedly secured a comfortable34 points to 23 victory, securing a bonus point in the process. Keys’ points came from tries by Josh Skinner and Joe Goodchild, with Josh Prosser kicking 10 points against his old side together with a long range Carl Meyer penalty. For Bargoed tries came from former Keys man Ieuan Jones, Grant Rogers, Ashley Norton and a converted penalty try. Matthew Lewis kicked all 3 conversions and a pair of penalties.

Since their win at Pandy Park the Bulls have won just one other game, which was an excellent 35 points to 14 at Rodney Parade against Newport. With Keys propping up the East conference with just 10 points from their 8 games played so far, Bargoed have a total of 13 points from their 8 games and sit one place above Keys in seventh place in the table.

The Keys have name their side for Saturday’s game at Bargoed and there are just 3 changes to the starting line-up that started last week in the defeat to Merthyr. Joe Goodchild returns to the Keys side and replaces Nathan Trowbridge on the wing. Up front Scott Andrews is with the Dragons at Munster so Josh Skinner moves back in to the second row and Taine Basham starts in the back row, just 2 days after his 18th birthday. On the bench Barney Nightingale will make his 50th appearance for Keys should he come on.
