Cross Keys v Cardiff Preview and Team News

Cross Keys are back in action for the first time since their defeat at Colwyn Bay against RGC1404 a fortnight ago, when they host Cardiff at Pandy Park this Saturday in the Principality Premiership.

The Blue and Blacks have had a solid season so far and currently occupy 4th position in the Principality Premiership table, behind the top 3 of Merthyr, Carmarthen Quins and RGC1404. Cardiff have won 6 and lost 5 of their 11 games played in the full Principality Premiership so far, amassing a total of 37 points, although they have lost their last 2 games against RGC and at Bedwas last week. In the first half of the season in the East conference, the Blue and Blacks finished up in 4th place with 7 wins and 7 defeats from their 14 games played.

Earlier this season in the East conference of the Principality Premiership, the honours went the way of the home side on each occasion in the 2 meetings between the 2 sides. At The Arms Park back in September last year Cardiff produced a devastating display of attacking rugby in the second half to see off Keys by 46 points to 19, Keys had led by 14 points to 13 at half time. The blue and blacks secured the win with points coming from tries by Will Rees-Hole, who grabbed a hat-trick along with one each for Lewis Jones, Owen Lane and James Sheekey. Ben Thomas kicked 3 conversions and 2 penalties with Gareth Thompson also adding 2 conversions. Keys crossed for 3 tries via Barney Nightingale, Lewis Smout and Nathan Trowbridge with 2 conversions from Josh Prosser. Keys gained some revenge for that defeat in the return fixture at Pandy Park last November when they won an entertaining fixture by 35 points to 27. Keys points coming from tries by Lewis Barnett, Rob Jones, Nathan Trowbridge, Lee Evans and Owain Leonard. Josh Prosser kicked all 5 conversions. Cardiff's points came via tries by Miles Normandale, James Murphy and Kristian Smith. Ben Jones added 12 points with 3 conversions and 2 penalties.

Back to Saturday's upcoming game and Keys have confirmed their team which includes Wales under 18 prop Taylor Hansen who could make his Keys debut from the bench. The side is captained by Darren Hughes in the absence of Scott Matthews, who is unavailable.
