Cross Keys v Bedlinog Preview and Team News

Cross Keys are back in action this Saturday when, after a 2 week break they host Championship side Bedlinog in the second round of this season’s WRU National Cup.

After an impressive 21 points to 16 victory over Pontypridd at Pandy Park in Round 1 last time out, Keys look forward to starting life under their newly promoted head coach Morgan Stoddart alongside incoming forwards coach, the former Wales and Lions second row Ian Evans and defence coach Aled James with a potential banana skin second round clash against Bedlinog (the Foxes).

The Foxes had a bye in Round 1 and are currently in mid table where they occupy 6th position in the Championship table where they have a total of 32 points from their 14 games played so far. They have a total of 6 wins over Newbridge, TATA Steel, Newcastle Emlyn, Trebanos, Beddau and last week over Skewen. They have lost a total of 7 games and have a solitary draw against Narberth earlier in the season. Keys will no doubt start the game as favourites but will need to wary of the fact that the Foxes will relish their opportunity as underdogs.

The Cross Keys side for Saturday’s game has been announced and it shows a total of 3 changes to the side that started in the Round 1 defeat of Pontypridd almost 3 weeks ago. In the backs the only change sees Nathan Trowbridge replacing Barney Nightingale on the wing. In the pack Corey Hewlett replaces Gary Carpenter at loose head prop whilst new signing Luke Dyckhoff, formerly of Cardiff, Bargoed and Pontypool makes his first start for Keys in the second row where he replaces Dan Mock. On the bench Gary Carpenter covers hooker whilst Keys once again include second row Harvey Reader.

15. Leon Andrews
