Cross Keys got back to winning ways after a disappointing run of 3 straight defeats as they edged out Bargoed at Pandy Park last Saturday.
With both Keys and Bargoed coming in to the match low on confidence following 3 successive defeats this game was never likely to be a classic.
The Keys claimed the win thanks to 3 Josh Prosser penalties, one in the first half with the other two in the second half.
Keys had a number of chances of crossing for tries with Mathew Powell going closest to crossing on the stroke of half time but he couldn’t quite get the ball under control following his chip to the corner. Whilst late in the second half Nathan Trowbridge seemed certain to score, as he broke free only for play to be called back for an apparent forward pass.
Keys had to produce a mammoth defensive effort midway through the first half as Bargoed piled on the pressure but Keys survived and their line remained intact. Keys were again under pressure for almost all of the final 5 minutes but again their defence remained in control and they were able to clear their lines before closing the game out.
