Newport v Cross Keys Preview and Team News

By David Glastonbury | 03/05/2017

Cross Keys take on Newport at Rodney Parade this evening where they must win to stand any chance of making the end of season Tier 2 play offs. Should Keys be defeated then the result will bring to an end what has proved to be a disappointing campaign with only the National Cup bringing some relative success for Keys this season.

When the sides met at Pandy Park in the pre-split Principality Premiership clash on Boxing Day it was Keys who triumphed with a 23 points to 8 victory, thanks largely to a dominating performance from the Keys pack. Keys points came from a pair of penalty tries together with both conversions and a trio of penalties from the boot of Josh Prosser. Newport's replies came from a try by Elliott Frewen and a penalty for Matt O'Brien. In the other fixtures between the two side's this season, both played in the Fosters Challenge Cup the honours went the way of the home side on each occasion with the Black and Ambers winning by 17 points to 11 at Rodney Parade and Keys gaining revenge for that defeat with a 33 points to 27 win at Pandy Park.

The Cross Keys side for Wednesday's game is somewhat weakened thanks to a combination of unavailability, injuries and Wales 7s call ups, but the side in full is:-

15. Leon Andrews
14. Corey Howells
13. Barney Nightingale
12. Phil Williams
