Cross Keys v Cardiff Preview and Team news

By David Glastonbury | 17/11/2017

Cross Keys welcome Cardiff to Pandy Park this evening as Keys look to continue a good run of form which has seen them pick up 2 successive victories away from Pandy Park in their last 2 outings.

The Blue and Blacks made a solid start to the campaign winning their opening 4 Principality Premiership East fixtures before going down to 3 successive defeats and then in the last 3 games they have regained some of their early season form with home wins over Newport and Bargoed with a narrow defeat at the hands of Champions Merthyr sandwiched between those 2 victories.

In that opening run of 4 defeats, the men from the Capital produced nothing short of a stunning second half performance to see off Keys and record a convincing 46 points to 19 victory at the Arms Park in mid-September, having been trailing 14 points to 13 at the break.  Cardiff crossed for a total of 6 tries with Will Rees-Hole grabbing a hat-trick, together with one apiece for Lewis Jones, Owen Lane and James Sheekey, who has since joined the Dragons. Ben Thomas added 3 conversions and a pair of penalties for the Blue and Blacks with replacement Gareth Thompson also adding 2 conversions. Keys scores came via tries for Barney Nightingale, Lewis Smout and Nathan Trowbridge with Josh Prosser kicking 2 conversions.

Cross Keys have announced the team to take on the Blue and Blacks and it shows just 3 changes to the team that took to the field in the win at Ebbw Vale last week. All 3 changes are up front where Rob Jones starts at hooker and Josh Skinner moves to number 8 where he replaces Taine Basham who has been called in to the Dragons Anglo-Welsh Cup squad. New signing Lee Evans, who has joined from Pontypridd comes straight in to the back row to start at blindside flanker. The Keys have been hit hard with a combination of Dragons call-ups, injuries and unavailability so call up on the services of Penallta second row Lee Rowlands who is named amongst the replacements, where Keys are also able to name Owain Leonard  following several good showings with the Dragons over recent weeks.
