Bedwas v Cross Keys Preview and Team News
By David Glastonbury | 24/11/2017
Cross Keys will look to continue their recent good form as they head to Bedwas for the latest Friday night Principality Premiership east fixture at the Bridge Field this evening.
When the 2 sides met at Pandy Park in the Principality Premiership around 2 months ago The Keys came up against a Bedwas side that were on a great run of form, having opened their league campaign with 4 wins from their opening 4 fixtures up to that meeting with Keys. After an entertaining clash The Keys became the first side to defeat Bedwas this season with a 25 points to 22 victory thanks to tries by Joe Goodchild, Rob Jones and Mathew Powell with Josh Prosser adding 10 points with 2 conversions and a pair of penalties. Bedwas’ replies came from tries by Dale Rogers, Mike Callow and Lewis Evans whilst former Keys favourite Steffan Jones kicked 2 conversions and a penalty for the men from the Bridge Field. The dip in form didn’t last long for Bedwas as they followed that defeat up with a further 2 victories to end the first quarter of the season before starting the current quarter of the campaign with a disappointing run of 3 defeats at the hands of Pontypridd, Newport and Merthyr but they got back to winning ways last weekend with a 26 points to 20 win at Bargoed.
The Cross Keys side for Friday evening’s game shows a number of changes to the side that defeated Cardiff at Pandy Park last Friday. Joe Goodchild returns to Keys’ colours to start at full back after being involved with the Dragons in the Anglo-Welsh cup in recent weeks. Goodchild’s inclusion allows Leon Andrews to move in to the centre where he partners Lewis Barnett. Up front Lewis Smout starts on the loose-head with Gary Carpenter alongside him starting at hooker for the first time following an impressive showing from the bench last week. In the back row Taine Basham comes back in at number 8 with Josh Skinner moving back to the blind side.
