Cross Keys v Ebbw Vale Preview and Team News

By David Glastonbury | 15/05/2018

Cross Keys host Ebbw Vale this evening (Tuesday 15th May) in the final match of the 2017/18 season. This game was originally scheduled to take place on April 7th but was postponed due to the fact that the Steelmen were in action at Pandy Park in their National Cup Semi Final clash against Merthyr.

Although this won’t be the first time Greg Woods has returned to Pandy Park with his new charges it will be a first clash against the side he left in January to take over at Ebbw Vale. There is sure to be a warm welcome reserved for Greg whatever the outcome of this evening’s game.

Earlier this season in the east conference Keys secured the double over the Steelmen, although Vale are a much improved team now. Back in September Keys secured a 20 points to 12 victory over the Steelmen. Tries for Keys on that occasion came from Nathan Trowbridge and James Leadbeater with Josh Prosser adding 2 conversions and 2 penalties. Ebbw’s tries came from skipper Ronnie Kynes and Srdan Majkic with former Keys outside half Dai Langdon kicking one conversion. The return at Eugene Cross Park back in November saw Keys leave with a 34 points to 20 bonus point win. Keys crossed for 5 tries via Scott Matthews, Barney Nightingale, Leon Andrews, Lewis Barnett and James Leadbeater whilst Josh Prosser kicked 3 conversions and a penalty goal. The Ebbw points came from a converted penalty try together with one each for Ronnie Kynes and Joe Franchi with Callum Hall adding a penalty.

Turning thoughts back to this evening’s game and with a host of players injured, Keys are once again extremely grateful to a host of clubs for granting permits to some of their players which allow Keys to field the following side:-
