Cross Keys have confirmed their new look coaching line up as they prepare for the 2019/2020 season in the Specsavers National Championship.
The club is delighted to confirm that Morgan Stoddart will continue as Head Coach as well as looking after the backs. He will have a new assistant alongside him as The Keys welcome new forwards coach Saul Nelson to the club. Nelson is a former hooker who spent much of his career over the Severn Bridge at Bristol and can also count Exeter, Cardiff and London Welsh amongst his former clubs as a player. Nelson’s coaching career saw him most recently take charge of Old Redcliffians, a team who Keys have faced in pre season fixtures over the past 3 years and under Nelson’s leadership the team based in the Brislington area of Bristol have risen from the South West regional leagues up to finishing in mid-table in the English National League 2 last season. After six seasons in charge Nelson decided to step down from his role at Old Redcliffians at the end of the 2018/19 season to pursue other opportunities, as well continue his role as head of rugby at Filton College and The Keys are delighted that Nelson has chosen to join them. He takes over from Ian Evans who has stepped down from his role as forwards coach at Keys and he is likely to continue his role as assistant coach with the Dragons.
The Keys also have a new man in charge of strength and conditioning with Dan Hitchings, who has appeared as a player on permit several time in the last 2 seasons joining the management team to take over from Jack Phelan as S&C Coach. Hitchings is a former Pontypridd player who has recently been plying his trade with Porth and might not have hung up his playing boots just yet!
With Mark Prangell continuing as Team Manager and Gwesyn Price-Jones continuing his role as assistant coach, with responsibility for assisting the forwards as well as analysis the Keys are really looking forward to heading in to the new era with this management team in place.
