Cross Keys and Llanelli shared the spoils after a Principality Premiership clash that probably won’t live too long in the memory of those that braved the atrocious weather conditions that ensured that this game was never likely to be a classic.
The only scores came either side of the break with Llanelli crossing for a try following a driving lineout around 12 minutes in to the game when hooker Taylor Davies emerged with the ball for a try which went unconverted. That was about as good as it got in terms of action in the first half as the visitors took a deserved 5-0 lead in to the break, thanks to their dominance up front.
With the horrendous weather conditions easing slightly in the second half Keys looked more threatening early on but a mixture of handling errors and some well organised defensive work ensured that the visitors held on to their slender lead as the half went on.
The Keys finally crossed for their first score with around 12 minutes to go when the ball found its way out wide and some slick handling from centre Dylan Fidler led to a clever pass out side to Srdan Majkic who crossed in the corner in front of the boys club. Jason Tovey couldn’t add the tricky conversion from the right hand touchline.
Llanelli enjoyed a good spell in the closing 10 minutes and had a pair of long shots at goal with a pair of penalties inside the final 5 minutes but both efforts failed and the sides were not going to be separated which meant a 5 all draw which was a fair result given the conditions and both sides should be commended for sticking at it.
