WRU National Cup – Round 2 Draw

After receiving a bye in Round 1, The Keys have taken their place in the draw for the WRU National Cup 2nd Round and have subsequently learned their fate after Tuesday lunchtime’s draw. Cross Keys will host runaway Championship leaders Pontypool at Pandy Park on the weekend of 26th January 2019. Pooler, who also received a bye in round 1 after Neath were unable to raise a side for their clash at Pontypool Park will come to Pandy Park with a side that has more than its fair share of familiar faces to the Keys’ faithful. Amongst their squad are former Keys captains Scott Matthews and Rob Nash, who of course lifted the Cup as Keys skipper back in 2012. They are joined in the vastly experienced Pooler squad by former Keys men Darren Hughes, Danny Hodge and Lloyd Lewis, whilst another cup winner with Keys in 2012, Rhys Dyer is now part of the coaching staff at Pontypool Park.

The two sides last met in the quarter finals at Pandy Park back in March 2017 and it was Keys, who featured Matthews, Hughes and Hodge in their lineup against Pooler who were triumphant as they secured a semi final place with a 19 points to 3 victory.

The full Draw for Round 2 is:-

Newbridge v Bridgend
Pontypridd v Llanelli
RGC1404 v Cardiff

All ties are scheduled to take place on the weekend of Saturday 26th January 2019.
